An illiberal tide is sweeping across the world. From the US to Europe; from Asia to the Arab world, liberal values are in retreat. Rising inequality, a rapid loss of faith in the established order and the rise of parties on both the extreme right and the extreme left have undermined liberal values. Liberal parties almost everywhere are losing ground – either to extremist forces or to voters who believe that they get as much liberalism as they need from mainstream parties of the right or the left. In this environment what is the future for liberalism? How can liberal parties re-vitalise themselves and once again gain political relevance?
These are the questions we will be addressing in this panel discussion.
We will also be launching a new book:
“The Death of Liberal Democracy?“
