The Radix Housing Commission have launched a new website, offering the opportunity for stakeholders across the living sector to contribute towards the discussions and inform the Commission’s proposals around the housing crisis which it aims to publish shortly after the general election. The website is inviting experts involved in the planning, development and housing sectors to offer evidence and ideas around the UK’s housing shortage problems.
The website, www.shoosmiths.com/Radix-Housing-Commission, is managed by Commission partner Shoosmiths and details the scope of the Commission, led by Dame Kate Barker CBE. The site will also include discussion papers on the four themes under consideration: how to free up more land for development; the role of specialist housing; approaches to sustainability and retrofit; and ensuring affordability.
Ben Rich, CEO of Radix Big Tent, commented, ‘The Commissioners have wide breadth of knowledge and experience but it is essential that we gather as much evidence and ideas as possible from all stakeholders in the housing sector to bring back to our round-table discussions. We aim to have our proposals finalised to submit shortly after the General Election so we would encourage submissions as soon as possible.’
Lisa Tye, partner and co-head of living at Shoosmiths and a member of the Commission, said “Shoosmiths is excited to continue to support the Commission and play an active part in tackling the UK’s housing shortage. This website is a way of opening up the discussion to the wider sector, and an opportunity for developers, investors, planners, local authorities and other organisations to have their views heard and help support positive change across the sector.”
Radix is holding a special online discussion with Dame Kate Barker on Monday 4th June at 1pm which will provide an opportunity to learn more about the Commission and its aims, Dame Barker’s views on the current state of housing in the UK and what has happened in the twenty years since the publication of the Barker Review into Housing Supply. https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/meet-the-leaders-forum-with-dame-kate-barker-tickets-894168340577 to register and submit questions and comments to be put to Dame Barker.
