Manos Matsaganis

Manos Matsaganis

Professor Matsaganis is Associate Professor of Public Finance at Politecnico di Milano. He was trained as an economist in Greece (AUEB) and in England (MSc York; PhD Bristol). He has worked at the London School of Economics, the Greek Prime Minister’s Office, the University of Crete, and the Athens University of Economics and Business, where he founded the Policy Analysis Research Unit. He was a Fulbright Scholar at the Center for European Studies at Harvard and at the Center for Equitable Growth, UC Berkeley.

He has acted as an advisor to the European Commission, the OECD, UNICEF, and the World Bank. He was a member of the Expert Group on Social Investment for Growth and Cohesion on the invitation of László Andor, European Commissioner for Employment and Social Affairs. He is a member of the Advisory Board of Solidarity Now and sits at the Board of the European Network of Social Policy Analysis (ESPAnet Europe) and of its Italian affiliate (ESPAnet Italia),and on the Editorial Boards of South European Society and Politics, Politiche Sociali, and Greek Review of Social Research.

His current research focuses on the distributional implications of the Eurozone crisis, the political economy of austerity in Southern Europe, and the effects of the minimum wage on employment, earnings and poverty.
