Building on recent projects like Design, differently and Designing London’s Recovery  Radix Big Tent is collaborating with The Design Council to host a discussion on the role of design in helping businesses, local community groups and local authorities address the biggest challenges of today in innovative ways.

  • George Freeman MP

    Appointed Minister of State in the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology on 7 February 2023. George was previously Minister of State in the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy from 26 October 2022 to 7 February 2023, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State in the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy from 17 September 2021 to 7 July 2022, a Minister of State at the Department for Transport from 26 July 2019 to 13 February 2020, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Life Sciences at the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills and the Department of Health from July 2014 until July 2016. He also served as Parliamentary Private Secretary to the Minister of State for Climate Change from 2010 to 2011. He was appointed government adviser on Life Sciences in July 2011, co-ordinating the government’s Life Science and Innovation, Health and Wealth Strategies (2011), and the Agri-Tech Industrial Strategy (2013). He was appointed the Prime Minister’s UK Trade Envoy in 2013.

  • Rachel Coldicutt

    An expert on the social impact of new and emerging technologies, and director of research consultancy Careful Industries and its sister social enterprise Promising Trouble. She was previously founding CEO of responsible technology think tank Doteveryone where she led influential and ground-breaking research into how technology is changing society and developed practical tools for responsible innovation. Prior to that, she spent almost 20 years working at the cutting edge of new technology for companies including the BBC, Microsoft, BT, and Channel 4, and was a pioneer in the digital art world. Rachel is an advisor, board member and trustee for a number of companies and charities and a member of the Ofcom Content Board. In 2019, Rachel was awarded an OBE in the New Year’s Honours for services for the digital society.

  • Tom Higham

    Creative Director and founder of Mediale, an independant arts charity and agency based in Selby. They work with artists, developers, designers, arts organisations and policy makers all over the world to curate and produce ambitious artworks and creative projects. Tom is interested in the enabling power of digital technology, and inspired by well-considered, simple and effective ideas and artworks. He is focused on multi-stakeholder, multi-artform projects and events and is deeply committed to the development of arts, culture and creative technology in the UK, and the North in particular. Clients and collaborators have included Arts Council England, British Council, Innovate UK, NESTA, Digital Economy and Future Cities Catapult, TodaysArt, Hyper Island, Unsound, Insomnia, National Football Museum, Centre for Contemporary Culture Barcelona, Art Science Museum, Singapore, and Sonar. He is a fellow of Salzburg Global Forum for Young Cultural Leaders and Clore’s Emerging Leaders programme.

  • Josephine Ozols-Riding

    Housing and Health Programme Manager for the Department of Health and Social Care. She is passionate about the transformative role that design can have on the health and wellbeing of communities. Her work is varied and covers design standards for new homes, cold homes and fuel poverty, retrofit, climate adaptation, building the evidence base on housing and health, and supporting closer links between housing and healthcare. Previously she has worked with local authorities, the NHS and housing associations, encouraging investment in low carbon buildings and the adoption of urban design principles that support health, wellbeing and inclusion. She is part of the Design Council's Expert Network and sits on the Executive Committee for the Housing Studies Association.
